Stop Starting Over… Do This Instead! (Season 2, Episode 2)

Things are always changing but often times after a pivot or change in direction it tends to feel like we’re right back at square one starting from bottom. In this episode, ShawnQ explains that with the right mindset we never technically “start over”, We just start better…


Hey ShawnQ here, your high ticket sales coach, and I am so excited. In this episode I’m going to show you why you never start over. I actually don’t believe anybody on this planet even if you’re doing something different, you make a different choice. You pivot you shift. You’re never ever starting over. You’re actually doing something a whole lot better.

Let’s jump in okay? So oftentimes starting over can feel like a lot of grief. It could feel disappointing. It can feel like you’re giving up or you’re quitting on that dream. You’re pursuing maybe for you. I know I’ve actually spoken with clients who are in their sixties, seventies, or they’re in the more seasoned parts of life and they’re in a place where they’re like, “Shawn, I’m starting this new business, but I feel like I’m starting over.”

I’ve also worked with clients who like, they start off as a certain type of entrepreneur. Maybe they’re a social media manager, and now they’re shifting to being coaches or consultants. I’ve even worked with coaches who then shift to fulfillment and done for you services and they feel like, man, I’m starting over.

There’s a couple of things that come up with this. Number one, it’s an identity shift because so many times we start this business two, three years ago, you pour so much energy and time and even money into making that business work, and it doesn’t work. You think that your going to become the same person you were when you just started that business, but the truth is through the last three years, two years, however long you built that business, you acquired skills and insight and wisdom.

You acquired experience. That’s going to allow you to move forward and make better choices, better decisions and you’re going to see opportunities out there that you didn’t see before. Another thing is you feel like sometimes you’re giving up on your dream, you’re quitting your dream.

Let me encourage you. Oftentimes the dream never changes is it. If it’s a deep soul dream where you’re like, “Oh, I know this is going to happen”. I want to take care of my family. I want to pay off our bills, or want to be able to buy a house for your mama. Like you, you want to do the things that are in your heart.

The dreams don’t change. Oftentimes it’s just the method or the way you get there. Making a wrong turn doesn’t mean you’re not going to your destination. It simply means you got to make a different turn to get there. So recognize and give yourself grace and permission to feel all the feelings and recognize your not quitting. You’re not giving up. You’re simply taking a detour. You’re taking another direction and you’re still on your way.

The final thing I’ll say to encourage you is you’re never starting over. You’re actually starting better. You were better than you were 2, 3, 4, 5 years ago. You were better than you were decades ago. You are making better decisions. You’re showing up more confidently. You can make stronger moves because of the experiences you’ve had.

So here here’s the truth about success is the way to success is through your mistakes, through your failures. So everything you’ve done in the past, whether it’s worked or it didn’t work, there are lessons. There, there are golden nuggets there for you to take and bring into this new season.
